I don't know if this was posted before or not. Audio books of Ham on Rye, Factotum, Post Office, and Woman are available on YouTube. I think I also noticed Hot Water Music as well.
Old Style and Schlitz
I like any kind of beer, but these two are among my favorites. Has anyone else here tried the re-formulated Krausened version of Old Style? It's actually really good. Now that Schlitz is backing to it's 1960's formula, I fond myself drinking that a lot as well. They are...
I was in Las Vegas recently. I spent a few hours drinking at O'Shea's then we went to a bar on the strip. I orderd one of those 2 foot tall margaritas. I drank it down in 10 minutes, and I felt fine. As soon as we left the bar, all the lights and sounds hit me. I threw up three times on the...
I don't know if someone else already brought this up. For someone as down and out as Hank was, he sure had a nice and neat beard. You'd think a trim would be the last thing on his mind.
In many of his stories and poems, Hank always mixed his booze with water. I never liked that combination. To me, the water always flatened the alcohol. I really enjoy Cutty Sark or J&B mixed with seltzer water. It's a nice way to mix it up, and the bubbles stay in the drink. What do you think?
Lately, I'v been switching between Pabst and Old Style. I like any kind of beer, and I'm always willing to try something new. If your'e ever in Milwaukee, check out the Landmark, they have an excellent selection of both bottles and taps.
I was re-reading that story the other day. There was something I never really paid much attention to. Since he lost so much blood, he needed a transfusion. But he couldn't get one because he had no blood credits. What are blood credits?
The other night I couldn't get my 7 month old son to stop crying and go to sleep. Out of desperation, I played a Bukowski C.D called "Charles Bukowski Uncensored". He reads the poems in a very calm and soothing manor. With in a few minutes, the kid was a sleep. I don't think this would work if...
I just finished a book called "charles Bukowski" by Barry Miles. It's published by Virgin Books. It has a very "lazy" style of writing. It seems that 90% of the book was taken from the Buwkowski's own writings. The other 10% is second hand infromation.
New Orleans. My wife and I had our honeymoon there. It was weird hearing the locals joke about the big hurricane that would eventually come, who knew it would be 3 weeks later. My foundest memory of that city would have to be drinking $1.09 cans of Steel Reserve with a homelss guy at 8:00 in the...
