U.S. ranks 8th in worldwide Google searches for "Charles Bukowski"

Everybody wants what Americans have - even almost perfect German society - The Hollywood paints very wrong picture of this country. And nobody can't see past that, even in this tough (for working people) economy. Interestingly, Czechs are pretty slimy bunch, and Croats are Nazi's...hmmm???

    Bukowski tattoos

In Serbia, as it was in former Yugoslavia, Bukowski is as important or more, than Hemingway. Out of ten randomly selected people 2-3 would have known about Bukowski.

"I'm not a huge fan of the stories that are not about sex and alcohol." Wait, the 'other' stories will open-up to you, as soon as you leave the adolescent years.

Bukowski is the number one most stolen author

I am more curious, if anybody have ever found Bukowski books at Goodwill or Thrift stores? I found Burroughs "Naked Lunch" and "Junky," and even Fante "Brotherhood of the Grape" published in 1977. All of them in Biloxi, MS American Thrift Store about 100miles east of NOLA.

    Buk's horse racing logic

In the Portions of the wine stained notebook, there is a really informative basic guide to horse-betting. He was very good with numbers and logic. He would have be successful in anything he decided to do.

Scott Harrison has spoken! The world at large stifles a yawn.

Man - that's a lot of butchery. I wish they are placed, side-by-side so we could see how much was tempered with. I think even one word changed would be too much.

It's called self promotion - kind of like your web-site here (somewhat) no offense. You are doing a good thing here, all the photos, timeline...etc. But no warm feeling of kinship, the reason, most of us are here for... Bukowski and Classical Music - anyone else at a loss...

http://www.realbeer.com/buk/classicbuk/cb1.html He compared himself to Bruckner - " ...he came so close, but never hit that home run, something like me..." or something close to that. It's been awhile since I read it, but cannot recall the exact source book or poem.

    Bukowski film: "The Killers"?

If you can believe it - even Reagan wouldn't be elected for the Republican ticket in this era. He would be considered too moderate! Why? They offer deregulation of anything that affects the big business and banking. Also oppose organized labor. They appeal to christian-conservatives with...

    A Buk filled Summer!

On the Croatian, Adriatic sea coastal area, ' bevanda' was drink popular with the sailors. Red wine mixed with water - easier on body and mind in the heat of the day.

    Bukowski film: "The Killers"?

Unfortunately Netflix doesn't have it - except for the 60's crime-noir collection of (2) movies based on Hemingway's short story. You never know what else will come up...maybe we should stop searching any further - we might find out, he was attending parties with Ronald Reagan???

Was Bukowski a well read man?

Interesting question, however it's in line with the other questions regarding authenticity of his stories. My father, although he could recite quotes from the certain Russian books, and claimed he read more books than '100 people you meet on the street combined' - I never saw him read one book...

    it began as a mistake

I don't know - when first read him (1982) at the age of 17 i thought he was the smartest man, and suspected the whole world and everyone else was crazy. And now, so many years later - I am sure of that. " a downtrodden..." that's called a blue collar in America. I wouldn't recommend it! So...

    Unemployed in 1968?

I think, he didn't feel like explaining them why was he still working at the Post Office - he was maybe little embarrassed to admit that he was still working stiff.
