    What I'm having for dinner.

Not long ago I had a massive whopping hamburger from a little fish & chip shop from around the corner. It's run by a Greek family and they're brilliant. Can't beat a well made, home made hamburger so I feel for the Americans here. They mainly seem to eat the mass produced horrible ones

What are his ex girl friends up to now?

It'd be interesting to hear from some of the women, what it was that attracted them to him. His writing wasn't exactly all fluffy which most women seem to go for so.......??

    When did you discover Bukowski?

First time I heard of Bukowski must have been in '87 when Barfly came out. I read somewhere that it was based on an actual person and this got me more interested in him. The thought of a drinking fighting burping farting poet / writer is a bit at odds with my possibly cliche'd ideas of these people

    Was he an alcoholic?

He was definitely an alcoholic and as someone already posted, he was fine with saying it himself BEER from: Love is A Mad Dog From Hell I don't know how many bottles of beer I have consumed while waiting for things to get better I dont know how much wine and whisky and beer mostly...

    Jane

Jane seemed to have lived a very sad life indeed and whether some of it was self inflicted or not is pretty much irrelevant to me. It was still a very sad life The fact that she's mentioned so positively in a number of Bukowski's poems is a great thing. In one he mentions the number of days...

    The laughing heart

A brilliant one. I believe this was one of his later poems and it shows glimpses of how in his later stuff he could hit the nail on the head with a short sharp burst

The Age of Rembrandt: Dutch Paintings in The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Paintings and the art world are strange things indeed. Not long ago a painting that had been on display in Australia for 40+ years (I think it was supposed to be a Picasso) was found to be a fake after being sent to the Dutch experts for verification, after someone questioned it's authenticity...

    sober 7 days...

I'd also recommend taking up a sport to help things along. Feeling better physically often goes a long way to improving your mental state. Nothing ridiculous or too strenuous. Start off with something such as swimming

Ever seen a photo of Bukowski at Musso and Frank Grill?

Can't help you with this particular photo but I'm sure there's a pic of him outside of Musso and Franks in a book somewhere p.s. I thought Musso and Franks was a fictional place. Obviously not

how often do you think bukowski drank?

Speaking of lighting factories, I love the one where in the middle of trying to keep up with the production line he suddenly yells "sunbeam" and other people join in yelling "sunbeam" and they end up laughing their heads off (at the stupidity of it all, no doubt) :D:D:D

how often do you think bukowski drank?

Sorry, maybe I misunderstood  I was of the thinking that he drank every day for virtually 50 years

how often do you think bukowski drank?

I don't agree with this. Binge drinkers often have a 'problem with alcohol' yet they'll mostly go on a bender then not drink for a while. Bingers aren't normally regular drinkers but tend to go beserk when they do

how often do you think bukowski drank?

It's amazing that for an alcoholic he gave up drinking near the end of his life

Apartment where "Post Office" penned slated for demolition

There are already Bukowski museums. In our own heads As the great man once wrote - "we are all museums" (of fear)

    What did Buk make?

Speaking of Bukowski and money..........there's possibly thousands of references in his work regarding skid row and being broke although I think this is somewhat exaggerated. He apparently sold his parents' place for $15,000 in the early? 60's. That was a tidy sum of money in those days

It reads a tad cynical to me. In order to retain the freedom that Americans have they have to be willing to allow the government to curtail their freedom to not be spied on, tracked, imprisoned at Gitmo without charge for years etc. All in the name of freedom of course

I can't believe the mental nature of what seems to be the US health system  As for Michael Moore and travelling to Cuba......F*ck the government. They have no right to tell anyone which country they can and can't visit The US once revoked a well known chess player's US citizenship...

HelllllOoOOoOOOo Its my first time ever...

And hello to you Cynthia. Sounds an interesting date to say the least, although anyone that lives like that daily might be taking it to the literal, a bit too much. Glad you got onto Bukowski, let him take away some of your fluffy ideas and ideals ;)

The Bukowski Tapes by Barbet Schroeder

In Part 2 there's a great bit about 15 minutes in. He's drunk and waffling on a bit. Then he starts talking about not liking people and out comes the following bits............. "this whole place is diseased with the presence of everybody but myself. Now Linda's gonna come back I'm not gonna...
