    The Bukowski forum is closing

And thanks from me as well. It's been a very unique experience.

    Guitars, basses and other noisemakers

It's hard to argue with an opinion. And I don't necessarily disagree, but in terms of concise output, the Beatles destroyed the Stones. On the other hand, the Stones were certainly more prolific over a long period of time. And at times, I'd rather hear Let it Bleed than Let it Be (actually...

    Guitars, basses and other noisemakers

Yes, Grateful Dead actually didn't play Altamont, despite being part of the organizing body. They were on the bill, but after hearing/seeing what had happened to members of their crew and to Marty Balin, they opted out.

    Guitars, basses and other noisemakers

I just spent the better part of an hour scrolling through this thread. Good stuff. I may have posted the following elsewhere on this site at some point, but not in this thread and while it's not about noisemakers per se, it's about synched-up noise transmission at large concert events. While...

    Vibrating snake oil

I do want to know, but I wonder whether a sub-woofer is helping to replicate the sound of the recording or overly-enhancing it. Having recorded in a few studios, I've found that the bass can be manipulated to varying degrees. What I can't figure out is what is the most accurate/faithful sound...

    Factotum - broken clock scene

"...the new theory (Formula K) enacts itself: M plus S plus C plus O (brought down to the relative power of 1/4 each): and the horse with the lowest total is the winner." Simple really.

    Factotum - broken clock scene

In fairness, I get paid to solve word problems like this. Er, I used to get paid more, but I still make enough to keep my head barely above water. But analyzing Buk at this level is really silly. Then again, I felt compelled to do it.

    Factotum - broken clock scene

Agreed on the 19.5 hours as a starting point, but since the clock moves 95 minutes every 60 minutes, the actual time passed since it was set properly is (19.5 hr) * (60/95) = 12.32 hr, so it's 12:19 PM.

Damn, that's a reviewer who actually gets it. ?

    Did Bukowski buy books

Top left corner here: Buk Photos. He wrote of having his own books, but this would seem to show some that aren't likely his. Also some papers, notebooks, etc. So, he likely bought some at the very least.

I never noticed those little, gray buttons!

    they, all of them, know

? That's where I derived my response along with looking at the four book entries. Not sure what you're shooting for there.

    they, all of them, know

One of my favorites. The four published printed versions (Crucifix, Penguin Modern Poets, Burning in Water, and The Pleasures of the Damned) all have "a snarling wife." Two recorded versions exist: one on the Terror Street/Agony Way tape and the other on a CD entitled Bukowski Reads his Poetry...

    Guitars, basses and other noisemakers

I'd say that Gretsch is the better guitar by quite a bit. But if your main axe is a Tele and you're looking for a hollow body, this semi-hollow Tele is worth a look: https://shop.fender.com/en-US/electric-guitars/telecaster/vintera-70s-telecaster-thinline/0149742328.html

    existentialism for dummies...

Kafka's The Trial actually made me angry while reading it. The Castle deals with a similar philosophical issue in somewhat less frustrating fashion. America is even more accessible and is something of a companion to these two. His shorter works are also good; The Penal Colony is a collection of...

    existentialism for dummies...

You should read Camus' interview entitled "No, I am not an existentialist," which can be found in Lyrical and Critical Essays. Camus and Buk are probably my two favorite writers (along with Dos and Kafka), but they are so different that they are 1a and 1b for me. Camus had a knack for writing...

    Unknown Bukowski pictures?

Yes, it's on page 53 of The Buk Book. Several other photos from the same day (it would seem) are also in that book. They are dated as "Hollywood '71." He lived at 5124 DeLongpre Ave. at the time.

    Bukowski Merchandise

I've had these for over 10 years. Not exactly custom, but I've never seen either one anywhere else. I put the orange one on whenever the Jehovah's Witnesses ring the doorbell.

Opinions on whether this looks real?

On first glance it doesn't look great, but there are a number of proper elements as well. My biggest concern is not the "B" (I've seen a few with loopy Bs like this, although not as loopy) but the "arles," which is very sloppy. But I looked at a few sigs from this era and they show signs of what...

    What Are You Reading?

Yes, the Roominghouse poems tend to be more abstract, which I like, but there's some One-Hour Martinizing in there, unfortunately. It's still a worthy collection despite that, IMO. I got into Camus before I got into Buk, and I think that The Myth of Sisyphus makes a nice contrast to the...

    Unknown Bukowski pictures?

Regentrification changes everything. In the early 20th Century, the Bronx was exclusive and Manhattan was a hell-hole. I learned something similar when the goodwife and I went to N'Orleans in 2010. She was looking for a nice spell of relaxation and I was looking for the history of Loujon Press...

What are you listening to? The world really needs to know. Volume 8

Meaning you're awake. ? This is derivative of several bands of the era, but these guys from Oz pretty much nail it for me: Allman's (Berry Oakley in particular, early on) Zep Sabbath

Run With the Hunted Reader (1993)

Just to add to the variables here, my copies of Screams are both signed on otherwise blank paper, unlike Pogue's example. I don't think anyone could convince me that both were signed in ~1993.
