    Bukowski in Miami

By the way... I was just thinking about the whole thing, and I can't figure out what hapened. He was going to Miami to hide, because he thought he had killed a man. I think it was in Factotum??? Did he kill the man or was it just his imagination? Or was that just pure fiction?

    I feel like screaming

I've been looking for a poem that I read a long time ago. It had a this line that I thought was just great: something along the lines of: "I feel like screming, but I know where they put those who scream" or something. I can't find it anymore, and have started to think, that maybe I just made it...

    Bukowski in Miami

When was Buk in Miami and for how long? I couldn't find that from the timeline. I think in Factotum he goes to Miami because he thinks he has killed a man at the racetrack. And he mentions the trip in some poem also saying that he read Henry Miller on the bus. So it did really happen (meaning...

    Dispelling Bukowski's myths

Just checked the timeline, and noticed that the nearly dying bit happened during the same year he quit and asked to be rehired. Did he quit first? 'Cause if he did, it might be that he just kinda got scared and wanted to be a better man? I don't know, just guessing. And didn't he get married to...

    Dispelling Bukowski's myths

...and probably would have done the same thing if writing career wouldn't have worked. Yes, I see what you're saying. But still, I think it was a brave move after all. Not many would have done that. By the way, did they hire him back in '55? Is there an answer to that letter somewhere...

    Buk interview

Oh yes, I remember him writing that he started to talk slower after the bleeding ulcer case, if you mean that. And he always said he wasn't the same after that.

    Dispelling Bukowski's myths

Sorry if everyone is tired of this old thing. I hope nobody get's pissed off about what I say or where, but I just had say something about this: He was 50 years old. He had a daughter who wasn't even 10. He was quiting something that was after all a "real" job. He wasn't a young man anymore...

    Was Bukowski bisexual?

I didn't really say all that much. I do think that alcohol does bring subconscious(?) desires and such things to the surface. So yes he obviously had some intrest in such things, but how much? And what I was talking about was the whole "show me your's and I'll show mine" thing. It's not...

    Was Bukowski bisexual?

If he was sober, then I dunno...but if he was drunk I don't think it means anything. It's not all that odd if somebody does something like that while he's drunk. Alcohol makes weard things happen.

    Was he an alcoholic?

"Bukowski was a religious man and he never drank and he never wrote, and didn't even know how to and was rased by loving parents and and and..." What's the point?

    Was he an alcoholic?

:confused::confused: That's such an odd thing to say, even if you are joking? I guess everybody who ever knew him, can tell that he drank and drank and drank... So why do you say he didn't? Where do you base your argument? It's a joke right? :D:D:D

    Was he an alcoholic?

Oh, it was a joke! I didn't get it...stupid me, huh? :o Well stupid says: I think alcohol was a lifestyle for Bukowski. Alcohol is a problem for the alcoholic, but it wasn't a problem for Buk. It was what he wanted to do. I think people who are alcoholic want to stop drinking, but can't. Buk...

    Was he an alcoholic?

 What? You are joking right? Are we talking about the same Bukowski? Is there such a book out there, where Buk doesn't even mention drinking???? Buk always said he was alcoholic, but....Didn't he stop drinking completely when he was fighting the TB-bug? I mean the antibiotics wouldn't...

    Extremely New To Buk

FIRST: THIS IS JUST MY OPINION, ALTHOUGH I TRY TO BE OBJECTIVE...:p Poetry: If you aren't used to reading poetry, I wouldn't suggest starting from the early poetry... Maybe best to start from poems written after 1980 (War All the Time, You Get So Alone etc.) The early poems tend to be...

    well, i finally watched it

I guess I was the last person on earth to see the movie Factotum. I found it from the library couple of weeks ago... Well, what can I say...If you think the book and the film are the same thing, you'll be disapointed. And If you consider it just as a film? I think that it was kinda boring. It's...

Common law mariage? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common-law_marriage If I understand it right it wouldn't have been legal/possible at the time in L.A. But in Post office, when Chinaski is asked if he was Betty's husband (in the hospital, when she was dying) he said: "I used to be her common-law...

    Jane

Yeah, you're right: it's probably just a mistake... It really doesn't seem like the FBI files are all that reliable, because, well in this case the name is wrong, the date is wrong... How much more mistakes did they make? And the line "Bukowski indicated he was married..." What does that mean...

    Jane

Has anyone else noticed how in the closeup of the FBI files the year that Jane was born seems to be given as 1918? This is strange, 'cause buk usually said Jane was ten years older than him. In the first chapter of Women for example, he says that when she died she was 48 and he was 38.(She died...

    When did you discover Bukowski?

Well this is my first time writing here, so what the hell...this seems like the perfect place to start. First: I'm from Finland and might make some typos etc, so please forgive me... Now, the first time I even heard of the name "Bukowski" was in a TV show called 'Gilmore Girls'. Well...
