    Happy Birthday Hank !

Hi Roni, the newspapers headlined Buk's death in germany - for that day at least - Buk was REALLY great in german bookstores in the 80s, even the tiniest bookstore in the city sold Buk books, these tiny white Buk poetry books were everywhere, and people bought them ... Buk's poetry then slowly...

Rest In Peace - Carl Weissner 1940-2012

Carl Weissner started the Bukowski-hype when he published its first translation at tiny Maro-Verlag, then the big editors discerned that they could make money with Bukowski, and it all began. Germany was a country of readers in these times and book shops flourished. Bukowski once mentioned that...

    Marina Louise Bukowski

some cliché: The first word Bukowski's daughter, Marina, learned to read was "liquor" since Hank spent so much of his leisure time in a drunken stupor. from: Drowning in a Sea of Booze: 100 Things You Didn't Know About Bukowski...

    John Martin

"100$/month for life", was a mere spoken gentleman's agreement, so J.M. was pretty safe from civil lawsuits from Buk. And I read here somewhere that Hank even proposed that 'deal', because he was on the verge of being fired in the post office anyway, - didn't mention that to J.M. though. But...

Thanx Digney, for your sweet trying, a new original Buk-world is popping up for us, heard a lot about these notes, now, first time we really can see them, now I'm gonna sound like a spoiled brat, but could we please get the poems too?

    When did you discover Bukowski?

I think Carl just further worked out the Buk-persona that Hank started by himself, on these geman books there was the (outright fake) Jean Genet quote of describing Buk as the "greatest writer of America", too Carl hit some poems quite good, and Hank sure was satisfied with the economic results...

    Bukowski's 'muse' lives with ghost

ah, I understand, so the veil of mystery about the secret of Hank's endurance is lifted, the young caged boy was in fact a lady .... the secret of my endurance ... (I've got a) young boy to write my stuff now, I keep him in a ten-foot cage with a typewriter, feed him whiskey and raw whores...

Yes He Was A Beat Writer!

At no time did Charles Bukowski consider himself a "Beat." to solve this mystery, I've added this scientific article from JULIE LEWIS about whether Buk was a Beat or not. it's from page 30 of "Encyclopedia of Beat Literature", edited by Kurt Hemmer, Facts On File, Inc. 2007, 132 West 31st...

Right, Mr.JP :-) but I like GK's column anyway Buk:"This is very important "” to take leisure time. Pace is the essence. he simply uses standard european pronounciation for "Bukowski". I was astonished when I first heard his name spoken as "Bu-cow-ski" like in cow I read that Buk's father used the european pronounciation in the first LA years, too, but changed that then in an attempt to better adapt to US...

Burt Kimmelman dedicated his anthology "20th Century American Poetry" !!! to Jane !!! really, so I tried to track the path and found Michael Basinski's article there: BUKOWSKI, CHARLES (1920-1994) Charles Bukowski came to prominence in the late 1960s. He published antiauthoritarian and...

Has reading Bukowski changed your personal life?

it was in a huge german public library, and I never saw other author signed books there, apart from Buk's books from the 70s. Guess the manager was a fan, too. And please: books don't "end" in such a library. There was no Internet in these times, and that library was the window to the...
