S/N War All the Time & Ask the Dust

Hey folks -- I put up a couple of books on eBay, and realized I should've offered 'em up here first. I've got a really nice s/n War All the Time up for $395/obo. I picked this up from Bill a year or so ago, but then lucked into a copy with a painting so am letting this fellow go. Happy to take...

    Black Sparrow values

Well this is the tricky thing about value, right? The conventional wisdom is that something is worth what someone will pay for it. The problem is that people will pay for something w/o knowing what its value is, thus (I would argue) artificially increasing its worth. And since there are few...

    Black Sparrow values

A couple later-printing copies of 'Days' have sold recently on eBay for what I consider to be 'stupid money'. I mean, signed firsts of this title went for $500 just a couple years ago, so $200 for 20th printing is nuts. The frustrating thing is knowing that people out there who don't know...

    Menebroker - Surviving Bukowski

Hey Roger -since you have 15 left, would you be interested in parting with one? I'd love to read it. If you're really not concerned with prices, then I'd be a terrific buyer :)

Forgeries on eBay [not specific Buk content]

Well look it this: Hello, Thanks for your interest in this item. I bought it myself on ebay three years ago. I paid over $500 for the book and until this week was convinced that it was a genuine signed first edition. A number of ebayers have brought to my attention an interview that Mr...

Forgeries on eBay [not specific Buk content]

Yah, the hilarious thing is that, I HAVE ONE OF THOSE COA ON A FORGED VONNEGUT BOOK! Same dude, same handwriting etc. I brought that up to the seller too, to no avail.

Forgeries on eBay [not specific Buk content]

I know there have been some good discussion on forgeries and such, as it pertains to certain signed Buk/Fante items, but I'm curious if there is any actual legal recourse for people posting legitimately fraudulent items. I'd think it falls under the category of 'mail fraud', which carries a...

You Don't See a Signed Assholes Every Day

    PBA has sold a few of these 2007 - signed, $862 2007 - unsigned, $172 2011 - unsigned, $390 2011 - signed, $540 So, $1500 seems a bit high, despite the Falcor ;)

    the "linda king effect"...

What chafes me is that she and the 'person around her' don't even bother getting worthwhile editions. A signed Ecco PB? Pppppbbbbttttthhh.

I'm either lucky, or dumb..... War All the Time w/painting

Man, it really chafes my hide that even by Ham on Rye, Buk was having to duke it out over $30 worth of paints. I mean, that's fucking ridiculous. Just the copies of HoR with paintings had a total cover price of $1950, and that doesn't count the myriad presentation copies, file copy, publisher...

    War All the Time s/n

Hey all -- I hope this isn't terribly gauche of me, but I'm offering up the copy of War All the Time I bought from Bill last year. It's in really, really nice shape, #200 out of 400. I'm only asking what I paid, $350. Comparable copies on Abe run ~$450, so not a bad deal. If I don't get any...

On second look I think it could well be acrylic. And Dirty Jersey, nice to see you again! I thought of that conversation before I bought, actually. Glad I did it -- hope you're well man, and enjoying the snow up there.

Bukowski and Classical Music - anyone else at a loss...

I think that's true, and I think of it as similar to Crumb's 20's music thing. Both were pretty complete social outcasts. The 'popular' kids never wanting much of anything to do with either of them. So, eschewing that world, they found others. Crumb with old timey jazz, Bukowski with classical...

I'm either lucky, or dumb..... War All the Time w/painting

"And I wonder how many of them stayed with Martin for a while after publication... :aerb:" I've wondered about that as well. Obviously, we'll never know. One question - I was going through some old PBA sales, and saw that for 'War All the Time' they've sold 'K' which had an oil painting, #40...

Just as I posted, Hank Solo's came in - it could well be acrylic, I suppose. We'll see tomorrow! I've wondered too about the cost. Awhile back I made a shockingly nerdy spreadsheet that has all the cover prices for the various editions. Of the ones with paintings, Days, Mockingbird, South of No...

I'm either lucky, or dumb..... War All the Time w/painting

I know - I was pretty surprised. I've worked with oil, watercolor, acrylic, and pastels, and it really seemed like pastels to me. It seemed pretty chalky like pastels are. There's a tissue page between the copywrite page and the painting to protect both, I presume. That being said, I really...

I'm either lucky, or dumb..... War All the Time w/painting

Pretty sure it's pastels - I picked it up at the post office, then had to rush out of town, so I've had far less time to check it out than I'd like. There are some bleed throughs onto the next page, which I hadn't expected. And yeah, it's super bright.

I'm either lucky, or dumb..... War All the Time w/painting

I tend to agree with you, but it was such a bizarrely good deal, my curiosity was piqued. The seller told me they were a art/book collector getting rid of a few things, so I'm content with my score. On that note, I got it in the mail yesterday and holy crap am I pleased. It's exactly what I...
