Heat (Michael Mann movie) - Bukowski Reference?

Towards the end of the movie, Val Kilmer's character's Camaro is registered (probably falsely) to a, "Bukowski, Gene." Anyone know if this is an actual reference?

It's hard to hear, and I didn't know what the actual name was until I watched it with subtitles at my cousin's house.
