It was. I think some places serve it on grease-proof paper that looks like newspaper for that 'authentic' touch. I can remember when you used to get a little bit of money off your bag of chips for taking old newspapers to the Fish and Chip shop. It's banned now though for health and safety reasons.
Same thing happening in London as what is happening in New York now too. But it's great because it makes lots of money. Speaking of which, apparently 1977 was the year in which there was most financial equality in the UK. That's progress for you.
English Breakfast, in a mug with milk, one sugar and so strong you can stand the spoon up in it ;)

Just gotten into watching Ray Donovan (I'm always a bit late to the party with these things). Thought the first episode was a bit cheesy but I guess it was just setting the scene. I've really gotten into it and ended up watching almost the whole series in about a week (just got the season one...
I think most of the stuff that sprang to mind for me has already been mentioned but I would add The Lowlife by Alexander Baron to the list. Highly recommended, as are his other novels. Gets a mention in this obituary for Baron from The Guardian back in 1999...
