btw i still remember seeing the ape girl at the CNE in toronto when i wa a kid (yes, i'm that old)

it was probably the last year they had the sideshow. when she turned into the ape and busted out of the cage people panicked and stampeded out and i remember hearing that an old man got trampled.

Rumgronis make a nice aperitif (variation on a Negroni - 1 part rum (used Angostura 1919), 1 part Italian bitters (e.g. Campari, Aperol, etc. - prefer the latter), 1 part sweet red vermouth, e.g. Martini Rosso). Pour the ingredients over ice in a rocks glass and give it a quick stir. Would appeal to those who like an Old Fashioned I reckon. Or Negronis, obviously

Not really a big ale fan, but this was sitting there in the store staring at me so I got a couple bottles. It wasn't bad. Or isn't bad, I'm finishing it right now. I'll probably let the second bottle age for a while. It's a bit like ale on steroids.

I had half a dozen bottles of Samuel Adams Triple Bock years ago that tasted like brandy (and the longer they aged, the more they tasted like brandy). I like that they continue to do weird stuff over there. They could just make their lager and cash the checks, but they're into experimenting.

Russell's Reserve comes from the good people doing God's work over at Wild Turkey. I picked up this bottle of rye accidentally, but as you can see, I made all gone, so I have to say it was very good.

By "accidentally," I mean that I'm not generally a big fan of the rye whiskey, and I went in to the store thinking I'd pick up a bottle of 10 year old Russell's Reserve bourbon, but I grabbed this by mistake.

The big number 6 where there should have been a 10 should have tipped me off, but that's just how I shop. Anyway, highly recommended if you like, or are in the mood for, some Kentucky spirits.

Tonight I'm drinking vodka from Iceland, which feels like betrayal. Delicious betrayal.
