Going to London next March

I scored two good tickets to see good ol' Neil Young at the Hammersmith Apollo next March. I'm going with my partner and our little one, Ona. I was wondering if any of you know any reasonably priced place to stay nearby??? Or is that area simply unreasonable?

And do yourself a favor and grab a ticket for that show. He just toured the USA to raving reviews. First hour acoustic, second hour electric. Lots of obscure, unreleased gems and very few hits. He'll tour Europe next Feb. / March but the bastard won't make it to Spain. Tickets for the Antwerp, Copenhagen and Amsterdam shows sold out in less than 30 minutes. He'll be six nights at the Hammersmith Apollo but most tickets are already gone. And they ain't cheap!

Hammersmith is pretty close to central London as I recall, might be tough to find a relatively inexpensive flop. Hopefully there are some locals here who have home-town knowledge. The beauty of the internet!

Try the Dorchester. I stayed there exactly a year ago today. Deepest and longest baths in London. There are 2 Italian bartenders at the main floor bar, at the end. They hate the English, England and English weather.

Give them nice tips and they will give you many free drinks. Just keep the tips coming along and you'll be drinking for about a fourth of what it should be costing you.

The Dorchester - HA! They have suites that cost more for one night than my total house rent for 4 years :eek:

Yes, Cirerita, the one near Hyde Park.

By palming a small bill into the concierge's hand, on a daily basis, I would get a small meeting room to myself for about an hour each day - so that I could smoke a cigar.

Flophouses, roominghouses and hostels were ok long ago, but at a certain age one moves on. Poverty can go fuck itself.

Life is short and meant to be lived.

It was a double room, for 4 nights.

I spend about 100 nights a year in hotel rooms.

Work and all that.

And I read Buk in those hotel rooms.

I use "flop" as a personal bit of slang for hotel, motel - someplace to sleep away from home. I wasn't suggesting that cirerita go sleep in a London flophouse, if any such thing exists.

You drop figures and talk about money a lot. Some people - not me, but, you know, some others - might think all the money talk was compensation for some other area(s) where you are lacking.

We get it. You are a Grand, spendy mofo. We stand in awe. You can stop dropping $20's all over the place now.

I stayed HERE a few years ago. Nothing fancy but reasonably priced, comfortable and centrally located with about a 3 minute walk to the tube station.

Thanks, chronic, that's certainly within the price range I was thinking of: Twin or double 121 quids per night.

When I was in London in August 1995 with a friend on a hitchhiking-tour, we slept at the Serpentines Gallery in Kensington Gardens. Has a roof in front to help the rain. But sure no suggestion for YOUR trip.

Anyway, have fun at the concert!

Hey, is Ona a Rock-fan already? I bet she is!

I tried (and missed out) on those Neil Young tickets. Saw a setlist of one of his recent shows; gutted.

As someone said, Hammersmith is relatively central and easy to reach on the tube wherever you are in London. Although I was born there I wouldn't recommend you stay there; it's a bit of shithole and if you're in town for a day or two you'd be better off moving a mile or two down the road. Try Earl's Court/Kensington/Fulham area maybe.

I stayed at a nice place called the Landmark. You walk out the door and Marylebone station is directly across the street. It's a few blocks from Regent's Park, and not too expensive (you are in London, nothing is cheap) if you book a smaller room. The smaller rooms are still comfortable.

There's my two cents. My recommended flop. ;) Go deh Rasta! Seen? Ites.

You're absolutely right. Hopefully, my recent purchase of Viagra, in bulk, will alleviate some of the problems that you allude to.

Not in a million years! Only kids have that kind of spontaneity that makes them dance -not knowing what "dance" means- in that unknowingly beautiful way. I didn't tell her a single word. I was just there, typing some shit at the computer, and she was doing her own thing. I grabbed the camera just in time...

They have a similarly natural cranky reaction to atonal or noise "music." Years ago a friend of mine was (briefly) playing some experimental noise shit someone had sent him and his toddler son went over and started kicking one of the speakers as hard as he could. A natural born critic.

yup, I found an inexpensive hotel in Paddington. It was glowingly reviewed in my old, battered Lonely Planet guide, but that doesn't mean much these days, does it?
