How should you say "Buk"?

and there is a guy on Public Radio DelMarVa (Delaware's National Public Radio) named Bill Bukowski and he pronounces it Byook-cow-ski.
I suppose it is one of those names that can be pronounced a few ways, but Buk certainly pronounced it Buck-cow-ski.

I first heard the "rhymes with puke" line in the 60s. For what it's worth.

i've heard a female interviewer with a german sounding accent pronounce his name Book-kov-ski. notice how the COW turns to a KOV. is that the german pronounciation? Roni!
Reading this thread doesn't completely clear this pronounciation issue. From what's I'm reading, when pronouning his full last name, it was "Buck-cow-ski," but when pronouncing the abbreviated form, it was "Buke." Have I got it?

I've always thought Buke rhymed more closely with Luke than with puke... the u is not quite as long as in puke. Pe-you-ck vs Loo-ck vs Beau-ck ... sort of like how Mickey Rourke says "Beautiful" to the barking dog in Barfly :D

Yup, that's how I've always pronounced it. But then again, I'm the guy who thinks that ü sound like uh, so you should probably assume that anything that I say is probably wrong.

LOL! Very good point. I was in the Air Force with guys from So Cal, Chicago, and Wisconsin. Wisconsin might be closer to Chicago but the way the pronounce some words is like they're from another country. "Rags" one of the guys from like Madison said "rags" and I had to make him repeat it like 3 times it was so foriegn sounding. It was almost like the way Brad Pitt said "dogs" in the movie he's speaking Pikey. The world is big and there a lot of ways to look at things and say them.
