Thanks!

Also, I'm working on putting together a small blogspot page with the basic rundown of all the Loujon stuff. The school I'm attending has copies of the first three Outsiders (I own the fourth) and all four Gypsy Lou Series books so I've been spending time with them taking notes and transcribing things. It seems like a lot of the information is out there but having a little simple page seemed like a good idea for those who don't feel like digging!
The page is in its beginning stages right now: http://loujonpress.blogspot.com/
It will be growing a bit as I transfer over more of my notes and all that.

Does anyone happen to know if there is other Jon Webb writing outside of the Outsider, Four Steps to the Wall, and the story from Wormwood #45?

What I'm digging up seems to point towards:
"The Key in the Lock" in Story, February 1936 (Vol. VIII No. 43)
"Night After Night" in Story, August 1935 (Vol. VII No. 37)

Funny, I found the same letter in my Buk files in a photo together with Webb's letter to Winchell in which he asks for help. In the photo are also Webb's own book and the two copies of Story in which he had a story printed. I must have gotten the photo from either the forum or Ebay.

You can read the whole letter (and much more) in Reach for the Sun, page 163 (the only BSP paperback I have!).

i've never heard of this "paperback" edition of the outsider 4/5. never seen one on ebay or abe for the last 9 years or so. anyone own one or have an image?

With jacket and without. I prefer this one to the HC. Have no idea how many softcover
were printed, so maybe someone else can help with that one. Price listed on the jacket is $4.

Yes, 4/5 is dedicated to Kenneth Patchen and there's a 44-page tribute from 20-odd poets in the middle of the book. On the yellow flyer included with the book, there's an extremely confusing statement:

IMPORTANT: "Sorry, no Stiffcover copies left. Re-checking our paid-up subs we discovered several hundred more than we thought there were. So only the Hardcovers are available."

The way that sentence is worded, you'd think that they found several hundred more stiffcover copies than they thought, but then why are they out of them? So, they probably meant the hardcovers, but this sentence doesn't communicate that.

Hmmm, an editor that doesn't write well. Who have thunk?

The hardcover version is not like any of the previous versions Of Outsider. It is truly a book, not a magazine. Maybe not as fancy as some of their other books, but still a thing of beauty -- A thing of crazy make-no-money beauty. And while we focus on Buk, the list of the rest of the contributors ain't bad. There is also a great photo of Buk with his daughter and a great drawing I have never seen elsewhere. Plus there are two uncollected poems.

Patchen? Thanks! - Yes, that is a confusing statement. It does´nt make any sense at all. It's like they think stiffcovers are different from hardcovers, but even so it does´nt make any sense.

I used to own both versions. The hardcover was indeed sumptous, although even the softcover was nice - especially when compared against the earlier "newsprint" paper and stapled bindings that preceded them.

The real bugger of the hardcover is the rice paper dust jacket. Mine is split down the middle of the spine, so I made a substitute jacket out of nice, thick artisan-type paper with a cut-out clear polythene window to show the red imprint. It's not great, but it holds the whole thing together.

Maybe he discovered several hundred more subscribers than he thought, and they got all the "stiffcovers." Hence the shortage and only hardcovers left.
