I don't get it. I have the cd right here (Solid Citizen). First there are 20 tracks from the Hamburg reading. Then comes 4 tracks (21-24) called Home recording 1969. It's the last track, no. 24, called A Short Story. King of Poets only have poems on it. So, listen to track 24 on Solid Citizen...

Yeah, what a fuck-up! My copy is also fucked up, but a different fuck-up. There's 24 tracks, the last being A Short Story (the little tailor). But in reality there's only 23, because track 15 (The Construction of the Masses) is really a part of track 14 (Trading insults)! That fucks up the rest of the track numbers because now no. 16 is really no. 15 and no. 17 is really no. 16 and so on, ending with no. 24 (A Short Story) really being no.23 - the last track. Are your copy also fucked up in this way? With the difference that your A short story is'nt listed at all, but on it anyway...

Just as Rubyred, I recently got into Buk and bought three of his poetry books--Love is a Dog from Hell, War All the Time, and Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame--after talking with a coworker about him and getting the DVD of Born Into This. I know there are many stories and poems, so I'm going to pace myself and enjoy every minute. I haven't read any of his stories or articles, but I'll be getting Notes of a Dirty Old Man any day now, and Post Office is definitely on my reading list.
I've been bitten really bad, but I don't want an antidote. There are definitely literary riches to be mined here.

Welcome Bug 77, Rubyred is going strong as you can read for yourself ;)...I remember the same enthusiasm you two are experiencing now and the good news is...it doesn't necessarily fade away...there is a lot to read (and re-read and re-read). To listen to, to watch and to discuss right here...this is really agreat forum
The one thing I have done is occasionally sit down and type out Bukowski poems...its interesting because as you get going a rythm of one kind or another sort of takes over and you'll notice that a word he has selected is different than the word you expected (or would have selected yourself)...but his word is 'right' - out of all the possibilities, the word he has chosen seems to be just right :)

Bobby D, you're right, the enthusiasm doesn't fade. but after reading Factotum, Post Office, Pulp, Hollywood, and South of No North all in a very short space of time, i felt like i needed to take a break, a breather of sorts. i never stopped checking out this forum on an almost daily basis (yay! for having the internet at work!), simply because the knowledge and enthusiasm and warmth displayed by the other forum members is so heartening. the level of wit and unpretentious intelligence and interest in a broad range of subjects means there is always good reading to be had on this site. and sometimes when i'm at work i'll open up one of the poems and leave it there on the screen for an hour or so, to keep coming back to (in between fitting shoes to old ladies' feet).
uni has just started up for the year, which won't leave a lot of time for extra-curricular reading but that's ok 'cos i'm happy to linger over buk's work, and it's something to look forward to at the end of the year :)

I'm the same about owning books. Interestingly enough, I think that the 2nd hand books are the best. They are broken in...kinda like Buk. Check the web for good access to the books.:D

postage rates:for US only: 1)4th class no insurance is $3.25 2)4th class w.insurance $5.00 3)priority mail no insurance is $5.50 Priority mail w. insurance is $7.75-WEST COAST STATES POSTAGE IS $8.75(WITH INSURANCE).
Why $1.00 extra for West Coast? They are in Maryland, but media mail costs the same anywhere in the US. If the buiyer is unlucky enough to win this from them and they live in California and they want insurance, they must pay $8.75 for postage that costs this person about $5.15. But my point is why the extra dollar for West Coast? What about Hawaii? Maybe that is not west Coast? I assume that it is just someone that has no clue...
