I wasn't around last time you posted these things, but I'm not sure what kind of response you want. You posted a bunch of Buk stuff on eBay, and linked to it here.

If people want to see what you have, they can link to your page. If not, they can move on. It doesn't seem like you're engaging the community in any dialogue about Bukowski, his work, etc., nor are you offering the community here anything they can't get from clicking your link.

I can verify as a new member, this board is active for people who are engaged and want to join in the discussions. You're just placing an ad, which people will glance at and then move on.

If you'd like a discussion here, I'd suggest listing out what you have, talk about why you're selling them, and maybe offer them for sale at a flat rate to members of the board first. Also, it's good to introduce yourself in the 'new blood' section.

I don't mean to say any of these in a negative way, just thougt I'd offer an explanation. Cheers.

no discussion can be a good thing - if people looked at your listings and thought the books were subpar or overpriced, they'd probably post to let you know it. most of the "for sale on eBay" threads don't get much discussion going unless the book for sale is particularly exciting. your stuff is off the beaten path, but nothing in there is so rare that a group of book collectors have never seen it before. still, thanks for making your way back and linking to the auctions.

Thanks, Jordan, i'll be posting more before tonight... as I said previously, i've got over 100 items to sell off.

I just wished I knew someone in the Chicago area who'd be willing to come check these out and/or help give me the right prices.

BTW, in this last sale, a guy got the "Klacto #23" for $50.00.

There's a lot more coming tonight, hope some of it catches a few folks eyes here...!

I personally ignored your posting because I remember you from the last two times you were here when you said you were "warming your financial hands over the rotting (and somewhat now expensive) work of a drunk guy who was a mediocre storyteller at best" and that you'd "feel better tossing it into the trash" than selling it at a reasonable price.

Obviously someone decided to let you back into here, so maybe you're not a bad guy.

Good luck with the sale, but I still wouldn't consider buying anything from you.

I was a dick - plain and simple.

But I was still a dick, and insulting people who are only trying to help and might have been the ones who actually have given me a decent price is the personality trait of an asshole.

I wish to plead my case and forgive each and every person who I mistakenly tried to flame, but the computer still hums silently as I write this and there's nothing I can do but hope the second time around doesn't result in more crap I just had to start for no other reason but pride and foolishness.

I just want to let potential buyers in one of the biggest sites in Bukiana that there's a few more books (and other weird and one-off ephemera) out there for sale.

I hope you consider looking at my auctions, maybe you'll see something worth having.

P.S. - no one let me in, I snuck in. Maybe as I'm escorted out I only wish I can mend a few burnt bridges, but probably not.

pretty scummy to list items as local pickup, and then put a shipping charge in the description. these kind of tactics send up red flags to most buyers with half a brain.

I have never used that tactic, but in reality Ebay forced this issue. They will not allow you to charge more than $4 for shipping books. not sure why they would choose an arbitrary amount like that. I have been forced to send books media because i could not charge more than $4 and it would have cost me $12 to send it Priority (Which the post office calls first class over 2 lbs).

I would not hold it against a seller for using it on a heavy book. in this case, though, it would cost about $2 to send the CD, so the $5 is meant to include handling fees, which i think are complete bullshit.

the $4 limit is total BS... but the thing that really makes me mad is that you can't build the cost of insurance into your shipping anymore. and we all know that telling the buyer that you are not responsible for shipping damage if they don't purchase insurance doesn't mean shit to ebay. ever since the put the $4 limit, i just do free shipping on all my auctions anyway - i do think that it increases your views, because ebay promotes items with free shipping. it's annoying, because other categories don't have the same limits - you can charge $8 to ship a comic book, for instance.

of course, as a buyer i appreciate it, since charging $15 for shipping and then sending it media mail with no insurance or delivery confirmation was pretty common before they instituted the limit. and, as a buyer, you can also fuck with sellers who put "free" or $1 shipping in the auction header and then a big thing about how shipping is actually $20 by just paying before they send you an invoice... and then when they don't send the item, you make a big stink about it to eBay, who doesn't give a shit what's in the description if it doesn't match the auction header.

The way that ebay changed it so that buyers can leave negative FB, but sellers cannot would have fixed that $15 problem. Still, why just books? I bought a little daguerreotype once and they guy did not list shipping fees. After I won it, he said that it was $15 to ship UPS. The thing weighed about 1/2lb. UPS allows you to hide the postage, but I know that it cost him less than $5. So, this robbery can continue in all cases, but in books. ANT, if the seller accidentally lists the book in another section, then they can charge whatever they want.

and you are right about insurance. the seller must send things out insured or the buyer can claim that they never got it and Paypal/Ebay will give them their money back and take it from you.

It's not just books. Ebay has fucked up the possibilities for an international seller to sell LP records too. You're forced to put 4$ (?) as shipping costs even thou it costs three times as much to send it. (Americans are free to charge whatever they choose as shipping!) And if you say in the auction that shipping will be more expensive ur liable to get ur auction shut down. I wont ever understand the logic behind this. Signing a petition doesn't help since Ebay is run by retarded, emotionless robots with absolutely no sympathy or understanding for the people they're actually supposed to serve. As a seller Ebay makes me angry.

I just charge the $4 shipping and eat the extra cost on a heavy book. If I can't get a good enough price to absorb the extra shipping cost, I don't list the book. The $4 maximum shipping on books is ridiculous.

As for the Buk items in the listings, I have never heard of the VHS film Buk wrote dialog for, "SLOW MOTION." I'll have to track one down. "CRAZY LOVE" is a very hard to find film.

Ebay understands that things like this piss their customers off. They just don't give a shit about their customers. I bet that they laugh at petitions then Meg Whitman takes a giant dump on the thing (I know that she is no longer there, but they have no doubt found someone else that can pinch a loaf on their customers complaints.) They could care less what their customers want. They know that there is not other auction site that has any traffic and will bleed us dry as long as they can. Anyone remember Blockbuster? Remember when they ruled the WORLD? They had the same business model and it took Netflix to put them out of business. Someone will take ebay out and it will be fun to watch.

It's the same thing with CD's and many other categories. For example, they will not let you charge more than $3.00 for the music/cd category! However, when you're selling a box set of something, etc, there is no way to get it sent for $3.00. I keep coming across this in many different categories. I have a huge Buzzcocks box set for sale right now, that I know will be 7-8 bucks to ship, even with the lowest shipping method. So I just put in the auction, please do not pay until an invoice has been sent. I have used this before, because when you actually send the invoice you can change the shipping charge to what it actually is. I don't know if this is cheating or not? I'd be PISSED if I was sent an email with a different shipping charge than stated, UNLESS they seller specifically listed it in the auction as I did.

I buy records from overseas a lot, and the shipping charge always says $4.00.... HOWEVER in all of the listings the seller explains that shipping a record from Japan or wherever will be more like $12.00-$20.00 depending on how fast you want it. So I always agree to that, and wait for them to send an invoice. But damn, it's frustrating.

After searching for the VHS for years in rental shops and not finding it, I finally borrowed the DVD from Netflicks. That took a while as it was always out. I think it's one of the best -- if not THE best -- Bukowski adaptations. Are you selling the VHS or giving it away?

I still have a VCR too, but I'm not sure where it is at the moment (I have to find it to play this tape I just got of the Ramones documentary that nervas recommended). But I wound up with a DVD of Crazy Love, so the tape is surplus. I don't even think the tape has been played.

I have a hundred VHS tapes that need to be transferred to DVD before they fall apart, but I haven't got around to working that out yet.

You can probably still find combo VHS and DVD players combined for about $50. It might almost be worth it to get a decent one to do the final transfer from tape to digital.

What I didn't realize is that to get a dual unit that actually records the VHS to DVD, you've got to shell out much more $. You can get the combos for ~50-$100, but they'll only record VHS from TV or DVD, but not do VHS to DVD transfer.

Sorry; I wasn't aware of that minor issue. And we have one that I assumed I could use to archive all my VHS tapes. How'd that work out for me?
