Another great hand on PKR.

Hello again Poker fans.

Here's another nice hand from a tourney today.

To be fair, SM is a small stack, but did he need to take a risk here?

(I'm the Hero on the table)

Well, of course, I was pleasantly surprised by the flop.

Nice, but it would have been nicer if someone with some real money had a pair of aces.
You don't see a straight flush very often in a lifetime.

Pocket pairs SUCK. I mean they really really really are awful. Pocket pair? FOLD. YES FOLD. Every time. Every damn time.

Carry on...

I play with real money on PokerStars.

What a pleasure, such a difference, the level of the players is way higher.

I play low buy in tourneys. $6+$0,50 is my max.

Most of the time I play the $1 or $3 buy in tourneys.

Sometimes a 45 players tourney, I also like the 18 players and 9 players tourney.

Last week I finished at the 6th place in a $4 buy in. A 180 players tourney! (My first 180 players tourney.)
4 hours playing in a row. Many good players, it was really tough. It reminded me of the good old chess tourneys. Finally they kicked me out when I was short stack and went all in with Ace and low kicker. The other player had a king and flopped a king. That was it.
Won $35 in this exciting 4 hours poker battle. Best result so far.

My advice, play with real money and play only the $1 tourneys the first 2 months. Learning stuff. Every day again.

I'm thinking about going back to Pokerstars - I only ever played with play money there before.

I play real money on PKR. Although it is a great game graphically the level of play varies wildly. I'm playing microstakes and small stake STTs mostly. A few small MTTs - came 2nd from 24 last week. But then donked away most of the winnings the next day :D

If you play very tight and aggressive at the right time you can do ok on PKR - mostly - but when you see weird hands come out you really bang your head on the desk. Some people seem to win with anything. eg. when I had KK and raised 4 BB the guy who won the hand (calling me to the river) hit his straight. He'd had 5 8 off in his hand when he called. Some players on PKR will not fold for any raise once they're in the pot - you see lots of draw chasing. Thought I'd finally done him over when we were heads up, I had a FH with my pocket QQs but then he just played All-in every hand. when you're at level 8 or 9 and the BB is 600 it doesn't take to long for your opponent to get his chips back like this so you have to loosen up. We ended up A9 vs A6, 6 and 9 on the flop. Still, 2nd gets a little money huh. Enough moaning from me. Playing live tonight - wish me luck.

I'm watching the Poker Channel now and then. Some pro's also play very weird, not standard. I don't play tight. I try to play aggressive in the beginning (the blinds are so low then) of the tournies to controle the table.
I make notes of people who play very tight. They hardly win a tourney.
That's my experience.
Sometimes I play tight, depends of my mood, and I try to set up a lot of variations in my game. Doesn't work all the time...but hey....w'll find a new winning sytstem, right:)
A lot of players play so standard that you're able to read them easily.

Have fun tonight!

i'm not much into poker.
but every nowandthen some friends play and invite me. i am one of the least experienced player on that tables then and usually, at the beginning, i'm playing fairly well: i start to collect money. i even had two evenings when (two different) friends of mine were getting REALLY angry, that i can win with my 'strategy' and they, with all their experience, lose.

fortunately i tend to get drunk during these evenings and thus i lose all i won and everybody's happy again ...

You drunk?

Just played my favorite tourney version.
Buy-in: $1.50 + $0.25 TURBO. 18 Players.

Heads up, both about the same chips amount.
I go all in with Ace-7. My Opponent has King-9.
The flop and turn: Queen-Jack-10. Oh well...
$8.10. Second place.

sorry to revive this old thread (and feel free to remove my pimping post), but I've a new chapbook that centers around a poker hand that you poker players may enjoy. nine poems that tell a narrative story, and each chap comes with an original watercolor as a bonus.

here's all the info: In Gambler's Blood

thanks for checking it out (or for putting this post in the proper electronic trashcan...).

sorry to revive this old thread ...

i'm glad you did. it was always fun to see the cats playing here and see their comments.
this thread died too early. but i guess, the 'method' of playing it, like they did here, can be exhausting.

your chap sounds interesting.
haven't checked out the page yet and am too drunk to do so now. will do later.

Hank Solo needed a break.
I'd like to continue the game.
Or we can start a chess thread.
If people are up to play a chess game,
let me know.

Maybe I will shuffle up again soon.

Chess would perhaps work better via PM, as it's 1 on 1. Unless there's a multiplayer chess I haven't heard of? I know, lets play Monopoly.

Ah! The Mirror system. This is an old tric but fun!

Or the players cheated as well:) or they were not allowed to leave their own seat.
If you are a strong chess player and
you look at the positions on the other boards
you'll recognize "an exact same position".

Get it? ;)

I recently started playing on Pokerstars. My original free $1,000 is now around $39,000. They gave me $5.00 real money, but I lost it. I also got entry into a cash touney for free. After an hour or so, I went all in with pocket Jacks. The guy who called me floped Kings and Aces.

Oh well...the free money people (idiots) teach you to play your cards and not your hopes.

Don't worry...I'm too...frugal to start gambling for reals. It's just a good way to pass the time on occasion.

We should get a Buk table together on the site some time. I usually play the 5/10 play money pot limit tables, but I'm flexible. I'm troysbro over there.

Ah! The Mirror system.

Lots of tricks in simultaneous chess games, it seems.
Let's have a simultaneous chess game, Ponder, but we have to make sure it's done in a way where you can't play any tricks! ;)

the river, part one

the gambler gets his money in fast, the chips
blurring into the center,
tilting from their stacks
and tumbling into a rushing heap

as they chase the cards
folded by the one with the family,
as they chase the expensive bet
from the one with the difficult job,
as they chase the action, the motion,
as they chase a dream.

the gambler's two cards,
studded and sparkling with
red diamonds,
sit flipped over and laughing
upon the burgundy felt.

he doesn't care what comes
down the river:

he has what he came to get.

Cardplayin' by gard!

Honestly, I only ever played for a short while, and that was while at sea to stave off boredom. I do however like to wander around at those "Native American" casinos and watch the fat cats throw down...from a safe distance of course.

I knew this fella who fashioned himself a high roller years ago, more gall than brains, anyhow, he got himself in game with some Italian American gents over on Federal Hill. Seems he did quite well at the table. The others at the table suspected something was awry, but being honorable men they paid up.

The cops found him behind Frank's Grotto later that evening with two severely shattered forearms. Seems two junior G's met him on his way to the Lincoln. Fixed him up with a Louisville Slugger.

Some guy's have all the luck. Had it been me, they'd have fished my bloated ass out of the Seekonk River.

Never Ever Play On Full Tilt Poker.

(Okay, I can stand being beat, but do I really need to be trampled into the dirt????)
Summary: QA diamonds in the small blind, only one earlier limper, raise 3 x BB, BB calls, limper calls,
flop 6s 7h Qc,
I'm all in [short stack only 745, approx 15 BB] BB folds, limper calls with 9s7s.

Turn: 8s

River: 5s

Yes, opponent has a straight flush. Incredible? Not on Full Tilt it seems - this the cherry on top of a week of bad beats and long suck-outs.

Try that in Vegas, man. Getting married the next day (actually the same day, because it's 3 in the freaking morning), and you get raped like that. Been there, done that.

But, still breathing and still hitched. She's a good woman. Well, tolerant anyway. ;)
