Johnny Carson's longtime sidekick Ed McMahon passed away today. The running joke was that McMahon drank too much too often, but that was mostly because he was Irish, an ex-Marine, etc.. But in this clip, he and Carson reminisce about one time when he really was sauced on the air. The excerpt may be tame by today's standards, but it's funny to hear Carson remark "You really think you're fooling everybody, don't you ?"

I always liked Ed McMahon especially after he ignored my sales manager who was a contestant on Star Search. I guess old Ed could see right through that phony's bullshit facade. You know I use to get letters from Ed McMahon at least a couple times a year.
May he rest in peace.
