Funny, in this letter from July 1, 1968, Bukowski tells the Webbs he is "unemployed," and can drive them from Los Angeles to Kingman, AZ if they fly in to Los Angeles. Wonder what he meant by that?
Well as we know, the truth in his works is a bit like salt water taffy. Maybe he was on suspension from the PO and figured full-blown unemployment couldn't be far down the line?
I think, he didn't feel like explaining them why was he still working at the Post Office - he was maybe little embarrassed to admit that he was still working stiff.
I wonder about the date too, I suppose. PBA is basing the date on the envelope, so it may or may not be correct. There could be a clue in Weddle's book about the Webbs, but I couldn't find anything in a quick look.
