I was lying, trying to safe my country ( heroic ).

Your impressions are right -

There's no such thing as a german culture.
We have nothing but unemployment.
And fear of strangers.
But we are the Masters Of The Universe in any case.
He-Man is our president.
White, blond hair, blue eyes.
At school we are tought about Aryans living at the north pole.
They are 3 mtrs tall.
We may only listen to Wagner.
The Gestapo is observing us on our sexual habits.

I am forced to write this because a Teutonian is pointing a loaded bratwurst at my head.

And Kraftwerk's synthesizers were built from potatoes and fueled by sauerkraut juice.

Well, don't feel too bad. Most places are far, far behind AMERICA when it comes to culture. It's not just Germany. At least you used to make good cars there. You know, before Japan got all, "Hey, now we're going to make the best cars, so screw you!" So you have some olden days pride to stand on there.

And some people actually like Kraftwerk, and that song about the balloons that the pretty girl sang, so you've got the pop music too (to stay relevant to the thread, after all).

Food - hmm, sorry, you've got nothing there.

Art - let me think a while.

So all in all, Germany is not the worst place on earth. Not while so much of the Eastern Bloc is in ruins. Hang in there.

I hail from a Nordic land that values a good bratwurst, so you are right, I may have to rescind my comment about German food. At least where the spicy cased meats are concerned. I never could warm up to sauerkraut though.

Especially Sabrett's.

Stove-top warm or fridge cold.

And perfect atop a fine bratwurst. ;)

Not a big fan of it either. Though it has a whole lot of vitamin C and is good for your health all over, baby.

In my area (Franconia) we sometimes add savoy instead of sauerkraut to our dumplings.
I do like That.

I love sauerkraut. even as a kid. they called me the The Sauerkraut Kid. I had a robe with that embroidered on my back. I'd walk down the street and everybody would shout "Hey! Here comes The Sauerkraut Kid! Make way for The Kid!"

All this talk of sauerkraut has me feeling nostalgic. When I lived in Germany, this was always a local favorite.


They were the premier punk band in Germany at the time. Or so I was told. I even saw them in concert once. Seriously. It was weird. Umläuts and lederhosen everywhere.

Oh no, not mocking (it's synth.pop music, what would be the point of mocking it? It mocks itself... ;)), just stating my preference for the more -- earthy version of the video.

see, that's the difference between you and me. sure, we both enjoy female armpit hair, but I prefer videos where it looks like the drummer is bored out of his fucking skull.

drummers are funny.

We made the same "hangs out with musicians" joke about bass players 25 years ago. Of course, in rawk music back then the bass just kind of went dumdumdumdumdumdumdum [slide up to the next dot on the fretboard] dumdumdumdumdumdumdum. Being a bass player in one of those mega-Sunset-Strip-hair-bands in the 80's was like winning the lottery, I tell ya. If you could hold a pick and looked good in spandex, you were in.

Or was that punk rock? I forget which...maybe both.

I remember those guys, I think they all worked with me at the Tower Video on Sunset in '86. We use to call them hairmos and they all played Glam Rock, wore lots of make-up and silk scarfs in pink and purple. Oh yeah i remember them.:D

Which reminds me, this album had just come out and I had the privileged, well you know the rest.

No, no - those were not my people.

Though I do have a picture of myself with KISS from 1975 or early 1976 where I am wearing big satin bellbottoms, which is pretty much along the same lines. In my defense, I didn't pick them out (my equally goofy teenage girlfriend did), but I wore them (with a leather jacket, but of course all the leather in the world can't counterbalance satin bellbottoms). And I rocked them, I must say. In a glam, teenage kind of way.

But luckily the Ramones came along soon after to show me the error of my ways.

The moral of the story, for all you dudes out there, is never let your girlfriend dress you!
