    Non-commercial Buk readings/video

@gerard No, I'm 40 or so you'd be surprised what recordings people can get their hands on. For example, I have a soundboard of a private concert that Sinat ra gave for Nixon at the Whitehouse that was somehow sneaked out. The Watergate guys, perhaps? I have hundred of unreleased shows...

    Non-commercial Buk readings/video

Does anyone have any Bukowski readings, videos or other material (that have not been released commercially) that they would upload or share? Fans of bands and music in general seem to share all their rare recordings at sites like Dimeadozen, so why not writers? R

    Jazz music

Isn't all music/art that changes the status quo, that finds new directions and finds itself being opposed by reactionaries, 'punk'? early jazz was punk; bebop was punk; rock n roll was punk; early blues was punk; Stravinsky was punk. oh, yes, and punk was punk. All truth passes...

The best beers (not the so-called king of beers)

true, Palm is nothing special, but I like a red beer. And it reminds me of good times in Amsterdam. Yes, Heineken is city-canal water when the sewers have burst their pipes. I can't remember if you can get real Heineken in the US. You certainly can't in the UK - for years it was only 4.1%...

The best beers (not the so-called king of beers)

What are your favourite beers? I've bummed around from country to country a lot, so I've slugged a lot of the stuff. First the hall of shame: English beer (ie, bitter, some ales) tastes mostly like stagnant piss from a brothel latrine. There are some great Porters, though, and some of the...

    Jazz music

I'm a big jazz fan. I go all the way back. I have hundreds of old 78rpm recordings and I particularly like British 1930's dance hall jazz bands and Duke Ellington. And of course I like the classics - Miles, Coltrane, Ella, Monk and all those guys. Some of the west coast stuff (Chet, Brubeck...

    Tom Waits

Tom Waits is great. I do like his more modern stuff, ie, post Swordfishtrombones, but his 'barfly' stuff (1970-1980) is my favourite: Closing Time, Heart of Saturday Night, Blue Valentine, Small Change, Foreign Affairs, Nighthawks. Truly beautiful music.

Bands that drop Bukowski's name or reference his work...

There's a track by Fila Brazillia on their 1st album Old Code New Chaos in which Buk reads his poem The Light of Jesus. http://www.amazon.com/Old-Codes-Chaos-Fila-Brazillia/dp/B000006YO8/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1243170826&sr=8-8

    Buk Influences

Only recently I've heard/read that Bukowski liked Antonin Artaud and Blaise Cendrars. Can anyone recommend good introductory works by either of them? thanks, R

    Buk/Purdy letters

The Shakespeare book (signed by Bukowski) is the City Lights paper edition and I bought it from a guy in Australia (from ebay)... I hope it's a genuine copy or I'm going to be unhappy :(
