Favorite Author (dead and still with us)

Yeah, I saw an interview with him on Charlie Rose. Quite an interesting character, though I haven't read him yet. I think he writes absurdist westerns or something, doesn't he? He is also a musician I think and is running for Governor of Texas. I think we could benefit from more politicians like him.
My tastes change but Scott Heim's last two novels (Mysterious Skin, and In Awe) were extraordinarily compelling. At this moment right now, he's my favorite author, and I can't wait for "We Disappear" to be released.

And the last time he smiled was when his friends told him where he'd be buried (in the Arizona desert somewhere). They got a case of beer and some whiskey and transported his body illegally... I always liked that story.

Right on, Mr B Goode.
When this thread began, Vonnegut was still alive. Now he's gone to the Violet Light and Hum. In the meantime, I've acquired a new favourite author (besides myself). He is as of yet unpublished (like my good self) and is named George Rostov. His stories are over-the-top with filth & obscenity and are quite hilarious. He's a local chap here in Kent. Do a google search and you'll find his myspace blog. He and I are no longer communicating with each other, but I still enjoy his work.
I remain the golden needle in the haystack.

I have been reading a great book of shorts by Miranda July called, No one belongs here more than you. Really funny, kind of twisted and memorable. I'm not even half way through the book but I can wholeheartedly recommend it.
If you saw the movie Me and You and Everyone We Know, this is the same writer. She starred in the movie as well, which I can also recommend if you haven't seen it. Really weird and funny and touching.
