Kurt Cobain was a fan of Bukowski

I didn't hijack and take over, I merged and commented.

The kids call it "forum management." Though I admit, it's a mystery to me. I just click on the little word pictures.

I truly am an immaturity who will not settle down.

Some thoughts on Cobain/Bukowski :

Kurt turned to Hank.
Hank stared back.
Kurt waited.
Hank waited longer.
Kurt rolled his eyes and then closed them.
Hank shrugged.
Bye Kurt.

And I don't mean to be dismissive of Cobain at all. I loved his work and consider "Lithium" to be one of the greatest rock songs of all time. But I am not offended at his burning of Buk's books because he obviously NEVER UNDERSTOOD THEM in the first place ! His actions are therefore just mis-placed gesturing. (Or technically a cry for help ). For me, there is no point in trying to assign a greater meaning to his recklessness with a cigarette lighter. He was talented and doomed but tragically un-aware of the fighting grace and stubborn pride that is all about SURVIVING. I don't think that Buk could have made it any clearer. So tragic that Cobain couldn't see it.
Especially after reading Bukowski. But of course, that is mental illness for you.......

I didn't write this. It's true. And no one claimed I did.

I alaways remember that quote from the Cobain journals....I was flicking through them years ago and just caught that passage by accident...and, of course, being a reader of bukowski, i was intrigued by the 'connection.'

I imagine Cobain, being by and larg a depressive, felt a certain kinship with Chinaski, but perhaps he felt that burning Bukowski, would elevate him from his misanthropic, negative world view.

There are a lot of impressioable people out there...who upon reading chinaski....readily make route down a road of alcohol abuse, self-destruction, self-loathing, and general Asocial View of society, people, and world! I don't holw the writer responsible for this, but it really does highlight, how desperate many people are, including the very young, for some kind of roll model, for some kind of person to afifliate with, to impersonate, to 'react' with.

As a young teen, I was the typical nirvana loving grunge kid, back before being a gunge kind in Scotland, was all the rage! It was strange that I should come to bukowski much later than my teenage years...something I am quite greatful for...I certain prefer Bukowskis words over Nirvana's music....Nirvana brought the indifferent, angsty spoiled teenage culture to life.

Now every kid thinks indifference to Life is the coolest thing since fat drunks....Our culture confirms as much...Our book shelves tell as much...Our televisions show that much.

No One Will Grow Up! :(

These are my words, they have not been entirely manipulated by the management of this forum. They have been manipulated by my own mind.

Shit,I'm completely bonkers. Ignore my comments re-corrupt managment. I'm clearly far too touchy and paranoid on this site since mjp and me got off on the wrong electronic foot.

I bow my head in madness.

I don't play ball.

I should just calm down. I'm afriad I so expect to get ripped here I assume it has already occurred in every post.

A misunderstanding on my part and nothing to do with being a small child at all. ;)

Olaf, how many times have I told you to calm down and you say "Yes, I know. I get carried away sometimes," and I say "It's okay to get carried away, but you don't have to pick everything up and carry it away with you," and you say "I know, I know." a lot of times? yes, many times. at least you took my advice on the exclamation points.

sheesh. it's a good thing I like you. ;)

Not a big fan, I presume ;)

As far as putting part of his pain on Buk... I don't know how much water can be held there. How sane can you be when you're on junk? (Ie: Trainspotting, Sid & Nancy, etc). The way I understand it... Cobain never wanted to be famous. Plus that whole Courtney Love thing... I bet she has Spungen's autograph.

Appreciate your friends
I just got here.
It looks like Olaf is admitting he's crazy or something. May be just a mild nervous breakdown.
I hope no one is upset. Kurt Cobain did shoot himself after all.

A day after Kurt Cobain killed himself, I wrote a poem about him. It got published in my school newspaper. My first official published work.

i love how you all think what cobain wrote was true.

i feel stupid and contagious
here we are now
entertain us

I love how you manage to look down your nose at anyone while you are listening to Ryan Adams and Pearl Jam and modeling your writing after ROLLINS. Now that is entertaining!

*sigh*

you think thats looking down my nose??? thats being amused that all those that posted came to the same conclusion. thats the contagious and stupid part. cobain wrote a lot of things and they too amuse me at times cause the man had a sense of humour.

i certainly didnt rag on anyone for their choice of music or who they supposedly modelled their writing on(which btw is not what i said).

It was not me who said it, but I have to love this line:

i love how you all think what cobain wrote was true.

We are all naive and easily fooled aren't we?

where did i say you were all naive and easily fooled?

i love how you all think what cobain wrote was true.

I'm just saying that this could be the quote that was being mentioned. I'm not sure that you meant it that way, but to me it seems like you are saying that you find it cute (read naive) how we all believe what cobain wrote was true.

No, that was me. I realize it may have seemed foreign to you, the direct approach, since you come from the
"asshole/martyr/repeat" school. It's not fun, it's not funny.

When you start off with, "Well, I'm here now, who knows how long I'll stay," all I can say is don't do us any
favors, and please - don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

what i said was, dont know how long ill stay but for now, im here. what that meant was knowing me the way i do i wasnt sure joining a new forum was the right thing to do. and no im not a stranger to the direct approach.

you, i can work with. :)

yes i dont doubt those were the words that have caused some to 'lose their shit' and jump all over me. im a newbie here, you all know that and i know that. its been a while since i was a newbie anywhere on the internet. tone is difficult to gauge on the internet when you dont know the people involved. i can honestly say had i said what i said on the forum i spend a fair amount of my time the reaction wouldve been diffferent. why?? cause they know me.
i find it neither cute nor naive that 'you all were under the impression what cobain wrote was true.' i was going on the posts i was reading thats all. perhaps i shouldnt have been so flippant in my response. and that makes me the naive one.

I paraphrased what you said rather than quoting it to prove a point (thanks for your help). I knew you would nitpick and quibble over which exact words you said, and then say that you meant something other than what your words implied.

Again, you are a very specific and identifiable forum "type," and your kind always end their tenure the same way. I'm sure you will not disappoint by veering off course and doing something unexpected. This is a completely predictable arc - like a sitcom or horror movie.

I've always thought that what Kurt Cobain said was true. Am I wrong? Oh Christ, tell me what to do!
Hey slimedog, post #666!:)
