The campaign to save Bukowski's De Longpre bungalow

The dude in Magnum PI that walked around all day dressed in a bathrobe spoke with a pretty good English accent. I believe he was Canadian As for Bukowski and nazis.......nah, he didn't gibe a shit about them. And he was wiling to go to war so??

Last CD you bought/ Book you read

Touching from a Distance by Deborah Curtis (anyone here know Joy Division? - seminal band from the late 70's that became New Order upon the suicide of singer Ian Curtis) Not a bad book but his wife painted him to be a long way short of the legendary status that he holds today Oh, and I...

So am I grown up now?

South Melbourne? I worked in Dorcas St for a couple of years 10 years ago and would get into a few local pubs on a Friday night........Bell's and especially The Water Rat (the WR used to be one mean mutha of a pub in the 70's and 80's) But anyway, in the early 90's in London a pile of us went...

So am I grown up now?

Apparently tipping is one way of showing appreciation for good service in the US and a few other countries. And here I was, thinking this was the employer's responsibility to pay the waiters well for a job well done Hey there are 2 Melbourne posters here (Thornbury here - where are you?)

    The Next Buk

I find it a bit difficult to believe that he'd want to "turn us over to the next"

Kurt Cobain was a fan of Bukowski

Kurt Cobain..........personally i couldn't see why he and Nirvana achieved god-like status. They were the early 90's version of punk but without any of the reasons for the existence of the original punk movement

    hello

I used to have an acquaintance from the North East. Anne Shannon from Newcastle. Would you per chance know her? She loved a beer or 12. One night she had a birthday bash at her place and whilst inebriated went to answer a knock at the door only to fall down the stairs and break her arm. Being a...

    I turned 21 on Tuesday...

Happy birthday Ninjerk, hope you enjoyed the day (my 21st was in 1984 :() A bottle of rum is a good effort for one so tender in years :D Drinking age here in Oz is 18 and has been for probably 40 years. In the 60's though, there was this absurd thing called the '6 o'clock swill' where pubs...

    Was Bukowski A Genius?

Nah, he wasn't a genius as such. He just had a knack for cutting through all the BS with a sledgehammer. I'd reserve the "genius" title for people that changed the world. Like Einstein. And maybe OJ Simpson :D

Groups you WOULD like to see reunite

I'd never heard of this guy until some I watched a doco with French friends about him. There was a song that he had and I asked the Frenchies what it was about. They said that it was about a "little hole little hole" :confused:errr ok then Serge  But groups I'd like to see get back...

    Hello !

Not in France I'm afraid but I have a question...........do you live anywhere near Rue De Clichy? It's in Paris somewhere and is mentioned in the book Papillon. I was in France in early 1991 and to my amazement stumbled across the street

    Bukowski fans: are we negative?

What's wrong with them? They're quite probably religious nuts who tend to see everything as "Great, everything is great" all the time. I find this rather annoying and often wonder if they're paedophiles. What they require is a sneaky left hook to the ribs when they least expect it :)

    Californication

Mate, never overestimate those Hollywood people. Many years ago they wanted to make a US version of Fawlty Towers and even hired John Cleese as a consultant. He walked away when some bright spark decided to write Basil Fawlty out from the series

    Bukowski fans: are we negative?

I'll sometimes show people some of Bukowski's work and quite often the response will be "it seems so dark and negative". It's difficult to explain that in reality it's not negative but simply brutally honest writing. I also sometimes wonder if these people are sometimes right in what they're...

linda when you brought it to me...

This one isn't one that I think too much of, except for the bit starting at the thread title. But I love this bit......"when you take it away do it slowly and easily, make it as if i was dying in my sleep instead of in my life. amen"

    Californication

If you have no tv then how can you hang sh*t on all those crappy shows? My gf loves Californication but I've barely watched 1 episode. Never thought of the Bukowski link. If it's meant to be anything Bukowski related then it's no surprise the Hollywood people fluffed the character up

    Going To Paris In October

Trust me on this one...........Paris is a lot more enjoyable if a Parisian can show you around. I went there a couple of times and the first time was with my ex. We'd never been there vefore and some of the cliches are true...........they don't like speaking English and can be pretty rude. And...
